A MAN has died after being hit by a train close to Rugby station this morning.

The man is believed to have jumped from Clifton Road bridge into the path of the train, which then came to a halt just west of the station. Police are currently treating the incident as non-suspicious.

Officers from British Transport Police and Warwickshire Police attended the incident, which was reported just before 6.30am.

Medics from West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, and located the body of a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to confirm the man’s identity and establish the full circumstances leading up to the incident."

Travel services have been delayed as a result. Commuters are being warned that some services may be cancelled, delayed by up to an hour or revised at short notice.

Chiltern Railways services are conveying passengers between Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone via Solihull in both directions until further notice.

Arrangements have been made for London Midland rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.
