THE rebuilding of the notorious Catthorpe interchange and Tollbar Island have finally been given the green light by the government.
Roads minister Stephen Hammond's approval means work should start on both early next year.
Both junctions are used by around 90,000 vehicles a day - way more than they were originally design for - and have long been inline for redesigning.
Mr Hammond said: "These improvements are vital for the economy, but most importantly for motorists in the Midlands, in reducing congestion levels and making journey times quicker in and around these two busy junctions."
The announcement of the redesigning of Catthorpe has been welcomed by Bruce Undy, from Fosse ME based in Stretton-under-Fosse and a national councillor for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
"The support of all the counties, including Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, and Warwickshire was essential, and the united support has helped to make the present scheme future proofed," Mr Undy told us.
"This will ensure that as traffic grows the extra links can be added to this junction. At the present time these improvements will give considerably more safety and economic benefits which are the positive results I have been fighting for."
