A NEW café is giving work opportunities to adults with learning disabilities.
The Hub Community Café opened last week in High Street and will also serve as a base where people can get free information and guidance for adults with learning disabilities, their families and carers.
Sarah O’Shaughnessy, director of owners Individual Support Solutions (ISS), said: “This is an exciting new venture, which gives the opportunity to bring together different community groups, and allows adults with learning disabilities to show case their skills in a café environment.
“We are currently recruiting volunteers, and want the café to have a real community emphasis.”
Co-director Alison Malcolm added: “We have worked in partnership with local colleges to support people with learning disabilities to gain qualifications in catering and food hygiene. This now gives them the opportunity to put those skills into practice.”
It will be open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
