THE OWNER of a man-made beach built without planning permission has pledged to keep it opening until the end of summer.

Stephen Hammon, managing director of the Heart of England Centre in Fillongley, said he could keep the sandy beach open for the next three months before being the deadline he has been set to remove it.

A recent High Court ruling prevented Mr Hammon from appealing against a planning inspector's decision to shut down the beach.

He described the decision as frustrating and disappointing but said he hoped families would turn out at the four-year-old beach for the final time.

"The next few months will be a chance to showcase Heart Park and Beach to the thousands of families who love coming here instead of having to sit in a hot car for several hours to go to the beach at the coast," he said.

"We won’t have the beach next year but the park and lake will remain open for woodland walks and activities in our 160 acres."
