ALE enthusiasts are toasting the success of two pubs which have made it into a prestigious beer drinker's guide.

The Seven Stars in the town centre and Grandborough's Shoulder of Mutton are among the new additions to the 2014 edition of the Campaign for Real Ales' (CAMRA) flagship title, The Good Beer Guide.

Rugby's branch of Camra said it was further proof the area is fast becoming a choice destination for ale tourists.

Seven Stars landlord Ryan Ashley said: “It's obviously very good for the pub.

“I think we're been included due to the quality of the beer, the ambience of the pub, and friendly bar staff and locals.”

Steve Dewes, landlord of the Shoulder of Mutton, said he was delighted to be receiving such high recognition.

“Obviously the real ale side of things is very much at the forefront at the minute,” he said.

“We've done a couple of beer festivals which have gone well, and we provide quite an ever-changing choice of ales in our place from just about every brewery known to man.”

The Guide is compiled by CAMRA members, who update and revise it each year, thereby guaranteeing the reader with the most up to date publication to the nation’s best real ale pubs.

Rugby CAMRA spokesman Steve Heighton said: “Beer quality is what gets you in the guide; you can pay to get in the other beer guide, but this one you only get in on quality and merit.

“Me and my mates often go drinking in other places, but in truth there's nowhere anywhere near as good as Rugby at the moment.

“The Seven Stars and the Shoulder of Mutton are right up there with the high standard that the Rugby district has got.”

The new edition of the guide includes 387 pubs from the West Midlands region, of which 93 are entries that were not in the 2013 edition.
