A NEW barber’s shop promises to offer significantly more than just a short back and sides.

Presented by The Saints theatre group, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street opens at Allesley Village Hall in Coventry from October 8 to 12.

Dastardly deeds are afoot as Sweeney Todd (Mark Treen) returns to London after escaping from transportation, only to find his wife dead and daughter Johanna (Kate McCormack) taken in as a ward by evil Judge Turpin (Chris Smith).

Consumed by the need for revenge Todd cooks up a deal with baker Mrs Lovett (Ade Kujore) to provide grisly fillings for her meat pies.

The cast also includes Dan Cowan (Anthoney Hope), Deb Darragh (Beggar Woman), Ade Kujore (Mrs Lovett), Daniel Peckett (Tobias Ragg), Nigel Owen (Beadle), David Healey (Gentleman), Bill Parkinson (Alfredo Pirelli) and Lucinda Toomey (Jemima Fogg).

Director Mark Smithers said: "The cast is a mix of seasoned players and new blood, with some members making their acting debuts with The Saints.

"We are all looking forward to telling this tale of betrayal and horror worthy of the ‘penny dreadfuls’ of the day."

Performances of Christopher Bond's play start at 7.30pm and tickets costing £6 and £5 are on sale from the box office on .
