THE successful fight against superbugs such as C diff and MRSA has won University and St Cross hospitals an award.
Their infection prevention and control team has been named the Infection Prevention Society’s Team of the Year for UK and Ireland and been nominated for two Nursing Times 2013 award.
Over the past five years C diff rates have fallen from 12 a month to just three while cases of MRSA have gone from 17 in 2008 to just one so far in 2013.
Campaigns run by the team have been backed by the Royal College of Nursing
Chief nursing officer Mark Radford said: "The recognition of these prestigious national awards reflects how much how staff care about getting the basics right for patients. It is clear to me their enthusiasm and dedication is infectious."
The Nursing Times Award will be announced later this month.
