A NATIONAL chain store is bucking the trend by moving back to the town centre.
Dorothy Perkins is opening above Burton's on Market Place on Thursday three years after closing its doors in Rugby.
Manager Beverley Jones said: “Dorothy Perkins is now one of the biggest fashion retailers in the country, and it’s great to see it back in Rugby town centre.”
The move bucks the trend of national chain stores leaving the high street in favour of out-of-town retail parks.
Last June, the Observer reported that Burton had been planning to vacate the Market Street premises when its lease runs out next year.
Arcadia Group, the parent company of both stores, had been pursuing a policy of allowing its leases to expire in town centres.
Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First managing director, said: “It’s fantastic news for the town centre. Not only will it provide customers with more choice but it will also complement the excellent existing independent boutiques and high street clothing stores offer we already have here in Rugby.
“There is no doubt footfall will also increase as old customers who used to shop in Dorothy Perkins return to the town centre so good news all around.”
