RUGBY'S big Christmas switch-on proved to be a real boost for the town - with car parks full and businesses reporting excellent trade.

X Factor stars Kingsland Road 'proved to be a massive draw' while all the other fantastic attractions also did their bit to create one of the biggest and best ever switch-ons in the town.

Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First Managing Director said: “We made a lot of changes to the event this year and were determined to broaden its appeal to a wider audience, increase visitor numbers and keep it fresh and interesting. I think it is fair to say this was achieved and we are delighted with how the day went.

“Throughout the day the town was extremely busy which is obviously fantastic news for local businesses.

"This is a great way to start the festive season at what is a particularly important time of the year for local retailers.

"I would like to thank all those that took part and joined the celebrations and encourage them to support their town centre this Christmas by shopping local.

"Finally on behalf of Rugby First I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.”

Observer photographer Jon Mullis was on-hand to capture the day's festivities.
