WHILST England’s cricketers endured a nightmare first Ashes test, Rugby’s Mark Cossar has quickly made his mark in Australia with three highly eventful performances.
Partnered by Daz Whetstone from Binley Woods, Cossar made a very impressive debut with fourth place from 32 starters at Gillman Speedway, near Adelaide.
Then, in the first round of the prestigious Sidecar Grand Slam Series at Kurri Kurri, the 28-year-old had to pull onto the infield during his opening ride (placed second at the time) when his leg became trapped under the bike, but he followed this up with two second places before torrential rain brought an end to the evening with each crew only completing three of their five scheduled rides.
Last weekend in Mildura, Cossar’s handlebars broke in his third ride, but after some rapid welding he returned to the track, only to crash spectacularly in his final race whilst leading.
“Mark has been right on the pace and will get even quicker as he gains more experience on the Aussie circuits,” said Cossar Motorsport’s Team Co-Coordinator, Melissa Dahl.
“He’s already beaten former world champions Darren Treloar and Mick Headland, so he’s proving that he belongs at this top level of the sport.”
Off track, Cossar and Whetsone were recently special guests on Australian television’s Thursday Thunder programme, where they were interviewed about their five-month assault on the sidecar scene Down Under.
