RUGBY picked up a hard fought point at Northampton on Saturday as they put a couple of recent disappointing displays behind them.
Szymon Oszyjczyk and Jack Duerden went close in the early stages for the visitors but it was the hosts who opened the scoring with a goal from a penalty corner.
Rugby drew level before half time though when Henry Harrison forced the ball over the line after some strong running through midfield.
The visitors looked the brighter of the two teams in the second half and they went ahead when Tom Morgan reacted quickest to convert a rebound off the keeper.
Saints levelled ten minutes later though to secure a deserved draw from what was a well-contested encounter.
HENRY Sewell grabbed a hat-trick as the 2nds overcame Olton and West Warwick 5-1.
Dave Odwell completed the scoring with a brace but will be disappointed not to have grabbed a hat-trick of his own having missed a simple chance.
Liam Brown scored a consolation goal as the 3rds fell to a 4-1 defeat Edgbaston whilst the 4ths went down 3-1 at home against Nottingham University.
A Man of the Match performance from Rob Betts and Selter’s goal could not save the 5ths from a 2-1 defeat against Beeston but there was better news for the 6ths who won 4-0 against Northampton Saints thanks to James Harrison (3) and Oscar Key.
League leaders West Bridgford proved too strong for the 7ths as they secured a 5-0 success. The margin of victory could have been greater had it not been for a Man of the Match performance from keeper Andy Davies.
THE Ladies fell to a 5-2 defeat when making the trip to Sutton Coldfield.
Having conceded a goal on the break, Rugby equalised through Amber who linked well with Charlie.
Amber netted again after Sutton had taken the lead for a second time to make it 2-2 before two penalty corner goals and a strike from a penalty flick allowed the hosts to run out as victors.
Emily Billing was named as Rugby’s Player of the Match.
A SECOND half goal from Caroline saw the 3rds secure a 1-1 draw against Warwick.
Having seen a number of chances go begging, Rugby fell behind late in the first half.
They came out in determined mood in the second half and got back on level terms when Julie and Megan combined for Caroline to score.
THE u18s held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalty flicks after drawing 1-1 with Lichfield u18s.
Henry Sewell slotted home the opening goal ten minutes before half time but Lichfield responded from a penalty corner in the second half.
Sam Fletcher was then the hero when saving the crucial penalty flick to send Rugby through to the next round on January 26.
