Newbold 41 Leicester Forest 25

Midlands Two East (South)

NEWBOLD made it seven league victories in a row on Saturday when overcoming a Leicester Forest who arrived at Parkfield Road with just one victory to their names.

KJ Henry scored the game’s first try when collecting from the back of a line-out and crossing the whitewash for Joss Andrews to convert.

Debutant Sean Pollard ran in the second try which Andrews also converted, but the visitors responded well, showing they were not prepared to roll over and die.

A converted try and a penalty got them back to within four points before Andrews sent a penalty of his own through the posts to make it 17-10.

Forest scored another unconverted try to make it 17-15 but Newbold kept control thanks to Danny Facer’s try, which Andrews converted.

The half time scoreboard read 24-18 in Newbold’s favour after the visitors sent another penalty through the uprights before the half time whistle.

There was a bonus for Newbold at the start of the second half as Andrews ran through unopposed for an easy converted score to make it 31-18.

Another seven points followed when Andrews converted Facer’s second score but still Forest refused to lie down and they just about kept themselves in touch with another converted try.

Newbold had done enough though and they put the icing on the cake with another Andrews penalty to move level on points with league leaders Leighton Buzzard.

A return to cup action on Saturday sees Stafford as the visitors to Parkfield Road for a 2.15pm kick-off.
