Rugby and East Warks 1 Nottingham Uni 2

MRHA Midlands Premier

RUGBY allowed a winning position turn into defeat for the second week running on Saturday when being taught a lesson by the students from Nottingham Uni.

For 50 minutes of the contest the hosts looked the better side and they went ahead when Ben Kluth finished off a fine team move that involved Russell Watling and Szymon Oszyjczyk attacking the left hand side.

Chris Graham then picked up an unfortunate yellow card before Chris Thomas made a fine save from a penalty flick.

That still was not enough to save Rugby though as the visitors struck twice to snatch victory.

THE 2nds played out a thrilling 5-5 draw at Leek with the goals going to Paul Ryan, Darshane, Chris Harding and Dave Odwell (2).

MISSED chances proved costly for the 3rds as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Uni but there was better news for the 4ths who won 4-1 against Cannock. Richard Cook was the star of the show, grabbing all four goals.

THE 5ths continued their winning ways with a 5-2 success against West Bridgeford 6ths.

Chaplin (2), Salter (2) and Assheton were on target for Rugby whilst the 6ths lost 6-3 at Loughborough Town despite Callum Mackay’s brace.

TOP scorer Richard Massie struck again for the 7ths but it was in a losing cause as they were beaten 3-1 by Coalville.

RUGBY Ladies picked up an impressive victory as they overcame Nuneaton 4-2.

Kirk made it 1-0 when capitalising on Meikle’s dummy but Nuneaton levelled from a short corner.

Dowling fed Meikle to make it 2-1 with a reverse stick shot but once again Nuneaton drew level, scoring five minutes into the second half.

Rugby remained resolute though and they went ahead for a third time with ten minutes left when Amber fired home before victory was sealed late on by Plackett.

THE 2nds were beaten 4-0 by Warwick but there was more to celebrate for the 3rds who beat Leamington 4ths 1-0 thanks to Jackie’s goal.

Leamington pushed forward strongly in the second half but good defending from Natalia, Elaine, Yas and Katie, together with an impressive goalkeeping display from Lottie Cook, saw Rugby home.

GOALS from Isobel Bower and Ben Cooper gave the Badgers a 2-0 victory against Northampton Saints.

The future also looks bright as the u14 girls picked up two victories, defeating Beeston 3-0 and Lutterworth 1-0.
