AFTER again failing to impress against fellow promotion rivals last weekend, Rugby Town face two more Southern League Division One Central fixtures over the coming week, firstly at home against mid-table Marlow on Saturday before travelling to Leighton on Tuesday evening.

Dunstable were the latest side to expose Town’s spasmodic frailties in a 3-0 defeat (turn inside for more details) and boss Dave Stringer will need to address his side’s poor form against the teams around them at the top if they are to finally succeed in their attempt at returning to the Premier Division.

Saturday’s opponents Marlow returned to the Southern League structure once more following a one season absence after their Hellenic League championship winning campaign.

Town have won all four of the previous league fixtures between the two sides with back-to-back doubles in 2010/11 and 2011/12, although famously they did lose out to the Buckinghamshire side in their FA Cup second round replay in 1992 - missing out on a subsequent tie with Tottenham Hotspur in the process.

Rugby also go into the Leighton match with the benefit of successive league doubles over them in the past two seasons.

The Bedfordshire side had a torrid time last time out, escaping relegation despite their bottom two finish - conceding 121 goals in total.

Valley put five of those past them without response in the home game in April, having also won 2-1 at Bell Close in the corresponding fixture earlier in the campaign.

THE club coach to Leighton will leave Butlin Road at 5.30pm. For the latest information contact Tony Mann on .
