ANOTHER frustrating afternoon for Welsh saw them fall to defeat on Saturday despite leading for the majority of the contest.

Welsh have been suffering from a series of unavailabilities and injuries in recent weeks but began the match well with their forwards dominating the opening exchanges.

The hosts’ line-out was again excellent, providing key possession for the backs with youngster Jack Taylor developing his game well at fly half.

Adam Bond caused problems with his direct running and Welsh were ahead within five minutes with a penalty from Guy Shaw. Welsh generally dominated the opening half but good defence from a hard working Copsewood prevented any further scores, ensuring the remainder of the first half was even.

The second half saw Welsh continue to generally dominate, although only a final forward pass prevented a Copsewood score. Prop forward King was at the heart of the forward drives and he was unlucky to score on a couple of occasions as Welsh pushed for the try which would have given them a wider lead.

They had a period of pressure midway through the half with the forwards driving their opposition back in the mauls, but were unable to come away with any further points.

Welsh began to give away penalties which gave Copsewood opportunities to clear their lines. However, a penalty with five minutes left from Shaw appeared to have given Welsh a deserved victory.

However, Copsewood turned over possession from the resulting kick off and scored a try in the corner which was excellently converted to give them a narrow victory.

Welsh will hope to bounce back on Saturday (2.15pm) when they travel to Coventry Technical.
