A BOOK launch marked the beginning of a legal secretary's bid to be the next JK Rowling.

Julia Wills celebrated the publication of her first children’s novel Fleeced at Hunt’s Bookshop on High Street on Saturday.

And the 49-year-old has already secured a deal to publish the sequel.

Fleeced, which has already received rave reviews from other children’s authors, is a comedy adventure that tells the story of Aries, the ghost ram of the Golden Fleece, who returns to modern Earth to find his mythical coat.

It was as a teacher at Guilsborough Primary School that the Clifton Road resident saw how children are captivated by the monsters and heroes of Ancient Greece.

She said: "I'm thrilled to be able to launch Fleeced in my home town.

"At its heart, Fleeced considers what it really means to be a hero.

"It is dedicated to my late father, who loved the idea at the heart of the book and who was himself a man of quiet and tremendous courage.

Now a part-time legal secretary at Brethertons Solicitors, Julia has written for as long as she can remember and has always dreamed of being commercially published.

After finishing her Masters in writing, she was signed by literary agents Antony Harwood Ltd and offered a two-book deal with Templar Publishing.

She is currently working on the sequel, which will be out later this year.

Fleeced is published by Templar Publishing and is available from Hunts Bookshop, Amazon, Waterstones.com and Sainsbury’s online.
