Hi: 10° Lo:2° 7 day
QUEEN Victoria would be very amused after a pub named after her won the Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA) Rugby Pub of the Year for 2013.
The Victoria Inn on Lower Hillmorton Road was given the award for the second time in three years after an extremely close contest which saw the biggest ever vote from local members.
The pub - home of the Atomic Ales brewery - will now be a strong favourite to win the Warwickshire award.
Rugby CAMRA's Steve Heighton said: “The quality of the pubs in and around Rugby is second to none, and with so any votes cast it was always going to be a close run thing.
“That they've won it twice in three years is testament to the quality of the pub.
“It's a fantastic example of how to run a successful pub with real ale at the forefront of the success, there is always something new and exciting to taste in the Vic.
“Nick Pugh and Keith Abbis have renovated parts of the pub and this has made it even more appealing to the ever growing numbers of young and women real ale drinkers.''
