HMS Tireless out in the southern Indian Ocean (s)
HMS Tireless has joined the search for the the missing Malaysian plane.
The submarine - affiliated to Rugby - arrived in the southern Indian Ocean late last week to assist in the search for its black box.
It has been reported this week several signals have been picked up from what search teams believe could be flight MH370's black box off the coast of Perth in western Australia although nothing has yet been confirmed.
The Royal Navy said HMS Tireless had been dispatched due to her advanced underwater search capability, saying she would also play an important role in the search for debris on the sea’s surface.
Patrol and survey ship HMS Echo was also sent out to join the search.
HMS Tireless, a Trafalgar-class nuclear submarine, is 30-years-old this year and was due to be decommissioned last year but will continue in service for another four years due to a delay in the replacement Astute-class submarines which are still undergoing sea trial.
The officers and crew are regular visitors to the town and were awarded the freedom of the borough in 2002.
