Ashlawn win the cup

FOOTBALL: THE showpiece U16 Boys Warwickshire County Cup Final took place on Monday evening in front of a rapturous and largely partisan support for local school Ashlawn as they looked to overcome Ash Green to be crowned champions.

In difficult conditions under foot Ashlawn started brightly putting early pressure on the Ashgreen goal and dominated the opening exchanges.

Still, it took a fabulous stop by Carlos Gomes to keep Ash Green from taking a surprise lead. Chances came and went and at half time Ashlawn were scratching their heads as to how the score line still read 0-0.

After the interval Ash Green came out fighting and took the game to Ashlawn, but they were unable to find a way through a well organised side who stuck to their shape and gameplan. Ashlawn managed to regain their composure and a fabulous through ball from Harry Holloway allowed Charlie Whiteside to race clear and deftly lob the ball over the on rushing keeper to the delight of the fans behind the goal.

Just 10 minutes later the game was all but over when great build up play saw the ball delivered from the right and Sam Lockley volleying home from inside the box.
