A NEW gym looks set to open on Paynes Lane industrial estate.

Tripontium Ventures has submitted a planning application to bring a weight lifting and CrossFit facility to a unit on the estate, providing two full-time and four part-time jobs.

The application states the company's coaches are former Weight Lifting champions, expert children’s coaches, fitness personnel managers, long-distance cyclists, NLP masters and serial entrepreneurs.

It adds: “Our mission is to deliver the highest quality coaching in both CrossFit and weight lifting to be found anywhere in the county and surrounding areas.

“We believe we have the skills and experience to establish a sustainable business and a centre of excellence in CrossFit and weight lifting, for the benefit of the borough and the surrounding areas.

“Our proposal will bring these community benefits to the borough in the only place capable of housing the facilities.

“This is no ordinary gym we propose: the people of Rugby need us.”

THE WEBB Ellis Rugby merchandise store wants to expand.

The St Matthews Street shop has applied to build ground and first floor extensions to the rear.

No-one from the shop could be contacted for any further details.

ASHLAWN School has been given permission for the phased development of ten new classrooms.

They will take the school's total number of classrooms to 98, and the total number of parking spaces to 196.

JEWELERY was stolen from an antiques fair by opportunistic thieves.

A red-lidded, clear plastic box containing various items was taken from participants as they packed their car at The Sports Connexion in Ryton. It happened at around 4.15pm on Sunday.

RUGBY Ramblers go on three walks in the coming week.

On Sunday they will lead a seven mile walk around Ratley and Edgehill, meeting at 9am top of Barby Road, and on Wednesday they will take in a four mile route around Newbold from the Barley Mow at 7.30pm.

And on Thursday the village of Geddington is the location of a nine mile walk. Members will meet at 9am at the petrol station end of Sainsburys car park.

Lutterworth Ramblers will walk six miles around Arthingworth near Daventry on Sunday, meeting at the town hall at 9.30am.

A BOOKLET promoting road safety has been published by the Rugby Association of Approved Driving Instructors using a £1,470 Big Lottery Fund grant.

Five thousands copies of what is envisaged as the first edition of a 20-page booklet have been made available to schools and colleges.

It contains information from the Warwickshire Police Safer Roads Partnership, West Midlands Ambulance Service and an article by 2012 Miss Rugby Charity Queen and current Miss Coventry Karla Fitzpatrick who was involved in a car crash as a passenger.

There is also a word search, writing and photography competition with £50 prizes for the winners of each, and a voucher for a free driving lesson.

MORE young blood donors are needed.

Figures released during what is National Blood Week show there are 2,259 donors aged between 17 and 24 in the Warwickshire, amounting for 13.9 per cent of young donors nationally.

But each year 200,000 new donors are required to attend a donation session to replace those who can no longer donate for health or other reasons.

Jon Latham, assistant director at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "We’re issuing a call up for more to come forward because we know blood donation falls off the to-do list during hot weather and summer holidays, and big public events like the World Cup."

A PUB quiz has boosted the coffers of the Friends of the Hospital of St Cross while two supporters are preparing to abseil down the West Orchard shopping centre in Coventry.

Hospital boss Juliet Starkey's husband Kris was quizmaster at town centre pub London Calling on Castle Street recently when the Friends' team finished third with the event itself raising £166.

Paul Davison and Adrian Hartopp are to descend 112ft down Coventry's shopping centre on Saturday, June 21 to raise funds for the group. It will be more of a challenge than it seems as Paul has a fear of heights.
