Pupils praised for GCSE results

SCHOOLS in Rugby celebrated another year of academic success when GCSE results were published last week.

Another excellent year at Rugby School saw almost one-third of the year group score 10 A* or A grades, and 70% of all grades were at this level. Eight pupils secured 10 A* grades.

Among them were Charlotte Brumpton, who achieved 10 A* and 1 A grade, and Emma Hanson and Tim Kerr-Chin, who each received 10 A* grades. All three intend to complete their A Levels at the School.

Headteacher Peter Green said: “This is a pleasing set of results for a strong group of pupils. Their success is a huge tribute to their hard work, and to the dedication of the staff who support them.”

At Rugby High School, all 94 students achieved 5 A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, and just under a half of them achieved at least 8 A*-A passes. Top performing students Simran Johal, Rachael O’Connor and Eleanor Long amassed 39 A*-A passes, 36 of them at A*.

Headteacher Charlotte Marten said: “We would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 students on their GCSE results. Students worked extremely hard to achieve these results and should feel very proud of them. They can embark on the next phase of their education with confidence.”

All Lawrence Sheriff students also achieved 5 A*-C including English and Mathematics, whilst nearly 65% of entries were graded A/A*. Over 80% of students scored A* or A grades in English and Mathematics. 31 students gained 10 or more A* or A grades.

Headteacher Dr Peter Kent said: “Over recent years GCSE results at the school have been amongst the best in the country and I would like to congratulate this year’s group of students on maintaining these very high standards.

“Results such as those are only achieved through a lot of hard work on the part of students and staff. It is also important to remember how much parents do to support their children during this challenging period.’

Of Princethorpe College's 126 GCSE candidates, a third of grades were at A* or A, over 60% at grade B or better and 21 pupils achieved at least eight A* or A grades.

The school's best individual results were from Sophie Nicholls who achieved 11 A*s and 2 A grades.

Headteacher Ed Hester said: “It is marvellous to be able to celebrate such success and all credit goes to the pupils and staff for their hard work.

“I am delighted that the vast majority of this cohort will continue into our wonderful Sixth Form and will have the opportunity to complete our innovative Princethorpe Diploma.”
