A PUNCTURE denied Rugby Velo’s Jeremy Hicks the chance to take second place in Round Four of the BWA West Midland Cyclo-cross League.
With Olympian Liam Killeen once again dominating the senior race at the popular Baggeridge Country Park course, Hicks found himself in a chase for the runner-up spot.
But it was not to be for Hicks who suffered a mid-race puncture which meant a trip to the pits to change his bike and when he returned 30 seconds had been lost and Hicks was made to settle for fifth position.
Team-mate James Garrett managed an impressive battle for the Under-23 class honours.
But with the course taking it’s toll Garrett was out-foxed in the ensuing sprint and was left with third position in his class and 14th overall.
In the morning’s veteran’s race, Gary Hipwell led the Velo’s charge with a seventh place in the 50+ class.
David Garrett battled to 18th, whilst Peter Mooney took third place in the 65+ age group.
And Steven Humphreys managed another top ten result in the Junior’s race coming home in seventh place.
