THE big time beckons for a teenage singer-songwriter who is just one step away from the final of a national competition.
Eve Singleton was given a big thumbs-up by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions when they selected her for the competition’s regional finals.
The 14-year-old Ashlawn School pupil will perform in front of an audience including a music industry judging panel at the Birmingham NEC on Saturday.
The prize is a place in the grand final at London’s O2 Arena.
She said: “I’m really excited, I just can’t wait. Each time I sing in the shower I get a bit more nervous!
“If I don’t get through it’s not the end of the world, but if I do I’ll be so proud of myself.”
In July, Eve won Rugby’s Got Talent, winning a studio session at Straw House Studio, a live slot on Rugby FM with Jason Moss and a gig at The Vault Nightclub on October 18.
Currently she is playing at local venues including The Black Swan and The Caldecott Arms, Long Lawford, and will appear in front of a crowd of 10,000 at the annual firework and music event at Winfield Recreation ground on November 2.
Eve said: “I’d rather have a bigger audience because then I can see the audience as one, whereas if I perform to three people then I can actually see their faces!”
Open Mic UK 2013 is the biggest music competition in the UK for singers and solo artists, searching for the UK’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres.
The latter stages of the competition provide acts with the opportunity to impress representatives from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry, as well as judges from national radio and regional press, with judges being more prestigious in the latter rounds.
Past judges have included Radio 1 DJs Ras Kwame and Annie Nightingale MBE, four-time Ivor Novello award winner Mark Hill and KISS FM’s Charlie Hedges.
Previous finalists also include Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and R&B/pop singer Hatty Keane.
