Florentine and Pig illustrator Jess Mikhail visits Rugby Art Gallery and Museum next month for the Big Draw.

TOP children's book illustrator Jess Mikhail visits Rugby Art Gallery and Museum for the Big Draw.

The annual Big Draw event aims to encourage everyone to draw, and on Saturday, October 12 the Art Gallery and Museum has a host of free, fun activities to inspire creative minds.

Jess Mikhail, whose imaginative illustrations have graced children's favourites such as the Florentine and Pig series, will read from her books, lead drawing and craft activities, hand out prizes and sign copies of her work.

Jessica Hartshorn, Rugby Art Gallery and Museum's learning and outreach officer, said: "The Big Draw is always a fun event and this year we have a great selection of activities for all ages.

"The aim of the day is to encourage all sorts of people to become creative, from the experienced to total novices, and therefore the activities range from the easy to the challenging.

"We're delighted Jess Mikhail will be joining us on the day, and I encourage everyone to come along and join in the fun."

Other activities at the Big Draw event celebrate the gallery's current exhibition, Beyond Surface and Material: The Meeting Point Between Photography and Textiles.

Artist Michaela McMillan will help visitors draw with thread at Splendid Silhouettes, creating colourful, two-dimensional textile silhouettes.

Fellow artist Kate Morris will encourage visitors to experiment with crayons and fabric at Make An Impression, creating rubbings which can also be decorated with drawings, sewing or appliqué.

Drawing On Film gives visitors the chance to experiment with drawing on photos, fabric and film, while Perfect Portraits celebrates the gallery's current exhibition of historic photos of Rugby from the Redding Collection.

Face painter Michele Leche will also attend the Big Draw, offering youngsters the chance to leave with a unique piece of facial art.

The Big Draw at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum runs from 10.30am-3.30pm on Saturday October 12. For more information, visit www.ragm.org.uk or call Rugby 533201.
