CLASSICAL music will echo around St Andrew’s Church when an accomplished local trio takes to the stage.

The church’s latest Open Door Concert will contrast two very different clarinet trios: Beethoven’s virtuosic Opus 11 trio in B flat and Zemlinsky’s late-romantic trio in D minor op.3.

The concert will also feature works by English composers: Vaughan Williams’ Six Studies in English Folksong for cello and piano; and Finzi’s Five Bagatelles for clarinet and piano.

On clarinet will be Zoë Hogan, who was Principal Clarinet with the National Youth Orchestra and studied with Jack Brymer and Thea King. She has performed with Scottish Ballet, London Concertante and Opera North and is formerly Director of Music at Bilton Grange School.

Cellist Huw Gibson studied cello at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama until the age of 21. Rosemary Robinson read Music at Newnham College, Cambridge. She teaches piano and is official accompanist at several local competitive music festivals. All three musicians are based in Rugby and have been performing as a trio since March 2012.

Co-organiser Rex Pogson said: “These are outstanding local performers at a standard for which one would pay many times our £5 entry fee in most venues. And they are playing for the love of it in our town centre. This programme is a partnership with the borough council and Rugby First about town centre buzz, and a chance to get talented locals an audience – so we want the audience there for them!”

The concert takes place at 7.30pm on Friday, October 11 at the town centre church.
