A RARE albino squirrel has been spotted at Draycote Water.

Estimations of the grey squirrel population in the UK vary from between 2.5million for five million and only one in 100,000 are said to be born albino, meaning there could be between just 25 and 50 in the wild at any one time.

There have been several sightings in Surrey in recent years, but The Observer could find no records of one being seen before in Warwickshire.

The one at Draycote was spotted by Nina Mold, who lives in Swinford, while walking around the resevoir last weekend.

She told us: "It's such a lovely creature. We spotted him when walking anti clockwise near the woodland walk by the one mile marker at around 9am.

"I read there are only about 25 of them in Britain at any point in time as they don't live long given the lack of camouflage. Not sure they're at all common round here.

"I mentioned it to the staff at Draycote who were also quite excited by the sighting, he is quite a rare little thing."
