X FACTOR stars Kingsland Road will turn on the town's Christmas lights.

Cawston's Connor Conaboy - one fifth of the boy band - revealed the planned appearance on a visit to the Wycliffe Peugeot garage on Leicester Road as part of a fund-raising drive for Children in Need.

"I don't know if I'm allowed to say, we're doing Rugby's. I don't know if that supposed to be a surprise or not, but I've said it now!

"I probably shouldn't have said that, but hey...We can't wait."

Kingsland Road arrived at Wycliffe Peugeot at around 2.15pm and signed autographs for waiting fans before washing a car as part of their support of Peugeot's countrywide car wash in aid of Children in Need.

The dealership is one of 280 across the country taking part in what is being billed as the UK’s Largest Car Wash.

And as well as selling Pudsey’s Car Wash Packs other Children in Need merchandise including Pudsey ears, teddy bears and wristbands will be on sale to raise money for disadvantaged children across the UK.

Details of the town's annual lights switch on on Sunday, November 24 were only revealed this week.

As well as the previously unannounced appearance of Kingsland Road there will be music, fireworks, a food fayre, arts and crafts, a funfair, live reindeer and the light switch-on ceremony will fill Church Street and North Street during a day-long celebration to start the countdown to Christmas 2013.

Rugby FM’s Jason Moss will be on stage to host live music, dance, games, magic, the Choir Idol final, carols from the Salvation Army and Father Christmas!

New for this year will be a Christmas Arts and Craft Fair selling handmade gifts. It will also take place on Monday November 25.

Children's attractions include Punch and Judy shows, a magic show, a bouncy castle, face-painting, bubble winter-land, a funfair and real live reindeer.

A Food Fayre will see an array of stalls selling tempting festive treats throughout the day.

The day will be brought to a close by a spectacular firework display set to music, provided by Daventry firm MLE Pyrotechnics, the 2011 winner of the British Firework Championships.

Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First Managing Director said: “It’s fantastic that Kingsland Road will be turning on the Christmas lights, especially as Connor Conaboy, one of the band members, is from Cawston.

"The light-switch on was already going to be very special but having Kingsland Road there really is the icing on the Christmas cake for us and the boys get a big yes from us!"

Tony Spencer, manager of the Clock Towers Shopping Centre, said: “We’re really excited to be hosting a meet and greet with Kingsland Road within the shopping centre.

"As spaces are limited for this exciting opportunity please make sure you check the Rugby FM website for details on how to win and listen in to Jason Moss every morning this week."

Activities will run from 10.30am to 5pm and be spread from Church to North Street. A full programme is on www.rugbytowncentre.co.uk.
