Crime victim sought, Vodafone told: 'improve 3G', gun amnesty

THE tables are being turned by police who are hunting a victim of crime.

They want to hear from someone who recently reported a motorbike stolen which they found last week.

A 22-year-old man and 15-year-old man were arrested in Rugby on November 5 after they were seen with the motorcycle. Both were later released on police bail until a date in December.

A subsequent search of a property on Pope Street in New Bilton revealed evidence of other stolen motorcycles and also other items which are believed to have been stolen in burglaries.

Among the items recovered from the house were a number of bottles of wine which were wrapped in floral pillow cases, a number of bottles of San Miguel lager, a cafetiere and a glass jar containing ground coffee.

To lay claim to any of these items call investigator Paul Lockton on 101.

MOBILE phone firm Vodafone has been ordered to improve accessibility to its 3G services.

The ruling comes after an investigation by regulator Ofcom found it was falling short on its obligation to provide coverage to 90 per cent of the population.

Figures showed it was 1.4 per cent off that target and it has been given until the start of the year to bridge the gap. EE, Three and O2 are hitting their targets, according to Ofcom.

A spokesman said: “Improving mobile coverage for consumers is a priority area for Ofcom.”

A TWO-WEEK amnesty saw 131 weapons and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition handed into police.

It was the first firearms amnesty in ten years run by the Leicestershire force.

The haul included seven revolvers, pistols and handguns, six rifles, 49 shotguns, three stun guns, 23 imitation, blank firing and flare guns, and 43 air weapons. They will either be destroyed or handed to museums.

Sergeant Richard Whileman said: “It is obvious that the less guns that are in circulation, or accessible to criminals, the safer our streets will be.”
