Tom Seekings (s)
THE funeral of a long-serving member of the Friends of the Hospital of St Cross takes place next week.
Tom Seekings died at University Hospital in Coventry on November 8 after being diagnosed with cancer shortly after undergoing major surgery.
He leaves wife Dorothy, two daughters and six grandchildren.
Mr Seekings’ funeral on Tuesday (November 26) will be a private cremation at Oakley Wood followed by an open Service of Thanksgiving at 11am at St Andrew’s Church in the town centre where he and Dorothy were married.
Heather Green, current chair of the Friends, said: “We shall miss Tom greatly. He was a faithful and active member of our committee and the sort of person you could rely on to get jobs done.
“He was a real friend of St Cross and he made a great contribution both to the hospital and to our charity.”
Mr Seekings was born in 1931 in Rugby and went to Lawrence Sheriff School where he often played the organ at morning assembly. He worked in the construction industry which meant he moved around a lot including living in London and Rhodesia before the family returned to Rugby where he retired while a director of a major local construction company.
They lived for many years on Hillmorton Road and latterly in Bilton.
He joined the Friends of the Hospital of St Cross in 1986 and served on its management committee then as chairman, purchasing officer and in 2011 was elected vice president.
As a senior Freemason he also recently received a certificate for his 50 years of service to Freemasonry during which time he supported many local Lodges as organist. For nearly 30 years he was the organist at the church in Churchover.
The family has invited donations, in his memory and at his wish, to the Friends or the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
