Former Crazy Daisy's site set for new homes

HOUSES now look likely to be built on the former Crazy Daisy's nightclub.

The once-popular nightclub building on the A45 was last used as a restaurant called Goji, but it closed in 2009 and was gutted by fire two years later.

Since then it has stood derelict with even its owners branding it an eyesore in a planning application setting out their despite to bulldoze it and put 15 homes in its place.

They have admitted they do not have the money to rebuild it and intend to sell it on - a move which has the support of Stretton Parish Council.

Chairman John Simmonds told us the plan was discussed at a meeting on Monday in which the council decided to give it its backing.

“It’s stood empty for years and and we’ve wanted the site tidying up instead of it remaining the mess it is now.

“There was talk of a hotel and another restaurant, but I don’t think it’s suitable for either bearing in mind where it is and what a struggle it would be to get to so it’s a good plans have gone in for the 15 houses.

“We support it wholeheartedly.”

Police said at the time of the blaze which virtually destroyed the building in May 2011 that it was started by metal thieves.

Restrictions

Attempts to redevelop the site where the Dun Cow pub once stood stalled because it is in the green belt and tighter planning restrictions meant it had to be marketed for its previous use.

But the borough council relaxed its approach and last year discussions over houses began.

A date has yet to be set for the application for two, three, four and five bedroom houses and new entrance via Stretton Road to be considered. A footbridge could also be built across the A45.

Planning agents Sworders said the plans would “rectify the current situation which neither the owners, borough or parish council would like to see continue”.
