A BID is to be made for a share of the Government’s £168million pothole fund to repair local roads.
The Department for Transport fund, announced in the Chancellor’s March Budget statement, is enough to fix more than three million potholes throughout the country.
Any cash awarded to Warwickshire County Council will be in addition to the £1.98 million already secured from the government’s severe weather road repair fund, allocated earlier this year.
Currently around 200 potholes each month are reported by the public or logged by safety inspectors across the county and a condition of the funding is the signing of a Pothole Pledge where the council sets out the number of potholes they will have repaired by March 2015.
Coun Peter Butlin said: “Potholes are a menace for all road users which is why this extra funding is being provided.
“We are hopeful of our success and ready to rise to this challenge to undertake repairs quickly and effectively and improve the quality of our roads.”
Councils have until next Thursday to submit bids.
