SOME of the world's top female cyclists sped through the streets of Lutterworth and Broughton Astley during what has turned out to be a hugely popular first Women's Tour.
Among the riders in the five-day race last week were British Olympians Laura Trott, Dani King and Lizzie Armitstead.
But they were outshone by former Countesthorpe Community College pupil Lucy Garner who was the highest placed Brit in seventh place with Olympic and world road race champion Marianne Vos the overall winner.
Hundreds of people braved the rain on day two when the riders made their way through this area last Thursday on their way from Oundle to Bury St Edmunds.
Coun Peter Osborne, Leicestershire council’s cabinet member for transport, said: "While this was a fantastic opportunity to glimpse some of the world’s top cyclists, we hope it will also inspire others to get on their bikes."
