Hi: 23° Lo:12°
A TOUCHING family tribute has been paid to an 85-year-old born-and-bred Rugby man who died after being hit by a bus.
The family of John Perkins paid tribute to a wonderful brother and uncle, describing him as a generous man who was very popular in his own quiet way.
John, who lived in Rugby all his life, leaves behind his sisters Dorothy and Joyce, niece Judith and nephew Richard.
He married his wife Shelia in 1955, who sadly passed away 20 years later.
He worked as a chemical analyst at BTH before going on to teach science at Lutterworth High School, where he was popularwith pupils – many of whom kept in contact after going on to study science at university.
John took a keen interest in local history, and was a long time member of the local society until his eyesight deteriorated.
He was very active and enjoyed badminton, swimming and bowls - and was looking forward to the new bowls season.
His family said he would do anything for anyone, often mending things or fixing people’s cars.
They thanked West Mercia Police for their support following the accident on Hillmorton Road around noon on Saturday September 13.
John was given emergency treatment and was anaesthetised at the scene, before being taken by air at Walsgrave Hospital where he later died.
John’s funeral will take place on Wednesday October 1 at 11.30am at Drayton Chapel, Rainsbrook Crematorium, Rugby.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, which involved a double decker bus. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 172 of September 13.
