ZOMBIES will help bring a new lease of life to two Rugby boys on Sunday (October 26), when the fifth annual charity Zombiethon shuffles through town.

The Halloween fancy dress event – this year with a dead celebrities theme – will raise money for ten-year-old Bobby Elson and his five year-old brother Ryan, who both suffer with cerebral palsy and who both need operations and equipment no longer available on the NHS.

Mum Beckie Haddock is trying to raise £20,000 to improve life for her boys, who she describes as normal, average kids.

She said: “They're brilliant. Ryan's really funny – he's a bit of a monkey. And Bobby's really happy and smiley, and has a really good sense of humour.”

Ryan needs surgery which will help with his condition and relieve his constant pain, while Bobby needs specialist equipment to help with similar problems.

Beckie says she's been blown away by offers of fund-raising help from people such as Zombiethon organiser Clare Plumbley.

She said: “We've got a lot of people around us willing to help with money-raising ideas. It's quite hard to put into words – how can you thank people enough?!”

She says the treatment will be life-changing – for Ryan in particular.

“It's just going to be massive. At the moment Ryan is very much 100 per cent dependent on everybody.

“It will give him that bit of independence and he'll be able to live a bit more pain-free.”

Registration for the Zombiethon starts at 2.30pm at the Vault nightclub in Church Street, with the walk around town starting at 3pm.

There will also be craft stalls from local businesses, a raffle, innuendo bingo and a cinema area for kids. Attendees can also 'gunge' staff from the Vault. Entrance is £2.50 and collections will be taken around town.
