Chance to sample the world's hottest chilli

THE world’s hottest chillii is set to add some red hot bite to proceedings as Ryton Gardens hosts its annual chilli day.

The Red Trinidad Scorpion is so hot to the touch it can can only be handled with special protective gloves and goggles.

It has the same intensity as police issue pepper spray, can burn through latex gloves and has a rating of over two million units on the Scoville scale – a ratings system used to measure the pungency or spicy heat of chilli peppers.

Tiny samples will be handed out on tooth picks on Saturday, August 17 alongside over 400 chillies from a range of 38 different varieties including the popular Chocolate Habanero, Cherry Bomb, Scotch Bonnet and Janalapeno chilli varieties.

Marketing manager Hannah Rogers said: "It should make a sizzling sight to behold and, for the really brave, to taste."
