WHILST there was no success on the field last weekend for Willoughby CC, there was a major success off it.

Along with many other clubs from the region, representatives from Willoughby were invited to Edgbaston for Warwickshire County Cricket Board’s annual ECB Natwest OSCAs ceremony, dedicated to recognising outstanding services to cricket at club and grassroots level.

Following another of their hugely successful Natwest Cricketforce events at the club in April - which saw club members aged between seven and 70 turn out for a day of work in and around the ground and pavilion - Willoughby were awarded the honour of the Warwickshire Cricket Board’s Natwest Cricketforce Club of the Year.

This award is normally reserved for the Focus Club in the county, however, based on the promotion and coverage prior to, during and after the event and level of support WCC received both from club members and also external sponsors and partners, it was felt they more than merited the award over all other clubs throughout the county; many of whom are of a considerably bigger size.

As a result of picking up this award, Willoughby have now been invited to attend and celebrate the national ECB Natwest OSCAs at Lord’s in London at the end of the month.

WILLOUGHBY ended their South Northants League Division One season with a 62-run defeat at Bodicote.

Adam Harris top scored with 70 as Bodicote were dismissed for 188 before Willoughby fell for 126 despite the best efforts of Nik Mistry (55).

The A side also lost their final outing in Division Four, going down by 16 runs at home against Helmdon.

Chris Lipson (59) guided the visitors to 175-8 despite the best efforts of Martin Nichols (4-34).

Nichols then impressed with the bat as he made 57 but the total proved just beyond Willoughby as they closed on 159-9.
