RUGBY and East Warwickshire Hockey Club enjoyed a successful pre-season trip to Bournemouth HC on Saturday as they secured a 6-2 victory.

Invited to help open Bournemouth’s new pitch, Rugby made a bright start and went ahead through Szymon Oszyjczyk’s powerful flick from a penalty corner.

Chris Graham converted another penalty corner a couple of minutes later to make it 2-0 before Oszyjczyk grabbed his second of the game when scoring from a penalty stroke.

Chris Harding and Jack Duerden picked up yellow cards before the break as the visitors lost their discipline somewhat, but they managed to avoid conceding.

Bournemouth did pull one back in the second half but Rugby’s response was swift as Oszyjczyk netted his third and fourth goals.

Once back in control, Rugby played out the final stages comfortably, going on to complete their 6-2 success.

THE 2nds fell to a 3-2 defeat in their opening pre-season friendly at Wellingborough.

After falling behind, Chris Thomas made a number of fine saves to keep his side in the game whilst Giles Morrison scored from a short corner to make it 1-1 at the break.

Rugby edged ahead in the second half, scoring from a short corner won by Gaz Unett, but the hosts scored twice more to take the victory.
