Sainsbury's relocates IT workers as part of Ansty expansion

SAINSBURY'S is to build two new office buildings at Ansty Park.

The supermarket chain said, if approved, they would see 220 staff from its IT team relocate there from Walsgrave.

The park is already home to approximately 900 staff from its property, telecoms, IT test centre, learning and development, general merchandise and clothing teams.

A planning application for the two new buildings and additional car parking space was set to be submitted to Rugby Borough Council sometime this month.

Bruno Moore, Sainsbury's head of town planning, said: “Moving to Ansty Park and opening our Product Development Centre has allowed us to expand considerably.

“This has benefited Ansty and the wider Coventry and Warwickshire area, bringing a significant boost to local economic growth.

“We want to continue investing in Ansty Park to provide us with the flexibility to meet our future business objectives.”

The former airfield is also home to the Manufacturing Technology Centre and it is hoped will eventually provide 5,000 jobs.

In January we reported how £60million of public and private funding would create a national centre for 3D printing technology to develop new products for the aerospace, automotive and medical industry.

Coun Craig Humphrey, the outgoing leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “Ansty is developing rapidly as an employment site of national significance and the announcement that Sainsbury’s is looking to increase its presence there in such a significant way is great news.

“The development will provide quality jobs for current and future generations of local people.

“I really am very proud of what’s being achieved at Ansty and Sainsbury’s announcement is just fantastic.”
