A STREAM of water flowed down Albert Street for almost a week when a water pipe sprang a leak.

And it would have continued had it not been for The Observer's enquiries with bosses at Severn Trent.

Nearby businesses, along with Rugby Borough Council, first reported the leak to Severn Trent Water last Thursday, but were told repair work could not be carried out before this Sunday due to lack of access because of parked vehicles.

But the fault was repaired yesterday (Wednesday).

It is believed to have started during road resurfacing work.

Tarun Patel of Blackhams Opticians said: "I've rang Severn Trent so many times but they won't listen to us. Three of us have rang but they said they couldn't do anything until Sunday."

A Severn Trent spokesperson told us yesterday: “It was initially reported to us as a trickling leak.

“I think it may have increased since then, which is why we've now sent out our guy to investigate it further.

"We’d like to thank the local community for its patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

An employee of Blackhams Opticians added: “It was when they were resurfacing the roads. That's what we think has happened – we think it was the pounding, when they flatten the tarmac; it's probably fractured something.”
